How To Make The Perfect Plunger Coffee

August 3, 2021

A plunger (also known as a French Press) is a quick and easy way to prepare yourself a coffee at home! A plunger can produce smooth, rice, full-bodied coffee in a quick and affordable way. We’re here to share with you our top tips for the perfect plunger coffee!

WHAT WILL YOU NEED?

  • Plunger
  • Your favourite Coff & Co beans (freshly ground if possible, otherwise pre-ground is fine too!)
  • A spoon (wooden or plastic)
  • Kettle

THE STEPS

  1. Scoop your ground coffee into your plunger. We recommend one tablespoon per cup of coffee!
  2. Fill your plunger with hot water. A good rule of thumb is to follow around 120mL of water per spoonful of coffee! Your water should be hot, but not boiling as this will burn your coffee grounds. Boil your kettle, then wait around 30 seconds before you pour the water into your plunger.
  3. Gently stir and try to avoid tapping the sides of your plunger – they are made of glass and we don’t want them to break!
  4. Place your plunger lid on top, but don’t press down. Let this sit for around 3 minutes to brew!
  5. After 3 minutes, gently plunge your coffee. You will know if your coffee to water ratio is correct if it is firm as you press down! Ensure the spout is turned away from you while you plunge, and use one hand to apply steady pressure as you plunge. It should take you around 20 seconds to complete the plunge.
  6. Pour and serve immediately!

COFF & CO TOP TIPS:

  • Like stronger coffee? Use more Coff & Co coffee and less water!
  • You can experiment with your brew times. If you would like stronger coffee you can try leaving it to brew for 6-8 minutes
  • For a lighter brew, try our Colombia or Ethiopia coffee beans
  • Don’t leave your coffee to sit in the plunger – it will become bitter and not pleasant to drink!
